A data update…
Here it is almost our last day in Arusha and I’ve been unable to
post anything all week. I bought wifi data until the end of the month but it
didn’t kick in when it was supposed to so I can’t post anything but a few
words. I could have gone downtown to work out the problem, but that’s about a ½
day trip and I haven’t had time. So, I have written other posts but will have
to post them when I get home to my own wifi. That will be the middle of the
week.
You might wonder how I can post this and not post a real
post. Well, Kundayo has a wimpy wifi—about like a dial up so I can post this—given
enough time for it to load BUT pictures are impossible.
Since I have your attention, however, I’ll give you an
update on Ngaisi, the young Maasai woman on the verge of delivering her child. There
is no update. Janet called the hospital where we knew she’d be going but they
couldn’t tell us anything because of “privacy” rules. The Africans here can’t
believe it. Makes no sense to them. Although the hospital personnel can’t
officially tell us anything, they will probably try to get word to us by means
other than telling us. That’s the way it
works here. Anyway, I personally suspect
that Ngaisi couldn’t manage getting herself on the back of a piki piki and taking
the motorcycle ride for 9 km to the highway to catch a van for a 2 hour ride to
Arusha—all this in labor.
Today, Janet and I gave our baby kit to Sharon (a friend at
church) who knows the director of the hospital where Ngaisi is supposed to
go. If she does, in fact, have the baby
in the boma, she will probably eventually make it to the hospital for a check
up and she’ll get all of her baby stuff then—hopefully. We know that her
sister, Elizabeth, will make sure that she gets to Arusha once she returns from
the outlying areas.
So that’s the story so far.
No pics. Too bad. But stay tuned. I have more to say once I return to
Internet Land.
