 Wait there’s more….

There are several interesting random little anecdotes and observations that I haven’t included in my daily writings so I’ll present them here. It’s a mish-mash of ideas and happenings in no special order as to time or place.

Before I left Spokane, a friend asked me to look for and buy some cream called “Crema de Cardon.”  She said she had gotten it in Mexico two times and found it to be a miracle cure for bruises. I thought, “no problem.” However, throughout the 3 weeks, we stopped at dozens (yes, dozens!) of pharmacies, natural food stores, market stalls, and even Woolworths(!). No one had even heard of it. Some of them looked it up online…

Sometimes we were sent to another shop. This is a map that one clerk drew for us….

After trying to figure out the “izquierda,” ”derecho,” and “enfrente de” directions, we ended up at a shop that we’d already been to.

Michele texted me that she went to 11 shops after I left. I’ve decided that Crema de Cardon is a fiction made up by Google and my friend Christine has come under the spell…. (Sorry Christine)

In Patzcuaro, one evening we stopped at a restaurant for a drink. When our favorite young server asked us if we wanted anything it eat with our drinks, we hemmed and hawed. Trying out her few words of English, she suggested “bonus chicken.”  I thought, “Great! Free chicken nuggets with our drinks.”  It wasn’t long before I realized she’d said “boneless chicken.”

(Sigh!)

In Patzcuaro, one day we ordered cake. It was soooooo good.

Later, on the street I saw where our cake had really come from. Mrs Kirkland had make it. (Costco)

Throughout our travels, we saw many shops with bea-u-ti-ful dresses.

They are dresses for Quinceañeras —the “coming of age” celebration for 15-year old girls. All of the dresses we saw had the same design with different decoration and details. In one shop, we asked how much such a dress cost and were told….$1000 —US Dollars!    Yowzer!

We called this “the house of weed.”  Look closely.

Coca Cola is absolutely everywhere. This was taken from the bus to Guadalajara. I’s kind of a funny juxtaposition of the no smoking logo that’s on the window.

Other American businesses prevail. BUT I saw only one Starbucks. Coffee shops in general were rare.

In the hotel near the airport in Morelia, this clock/alarm was on the bedside table but there was no outlet.
