Just Food—miscellaneous photos
Someone asked me, “What is Alsatian food?” Alsatian food is a blend of German and French cultures. There are some particular dishes and food that are uniquely Alsatian like Choucroute (Sauerkraut), and Knack (little sausages / wieners), Tarte Flambé (a kind of pizza-looking dish), Baechaoffa (different kind of stew), Kougelhopf (special cake), Pretzels (big soft ones). In general there is a lot of pork. I mean lots! Then there’s potatoes and pasta and well, everything has a sauce made of cream and butter. Yes, lots of butter. Oh, beer. There is a lot of nice craft-like beers in Alsace. Of course, Alsace is also known for its white wines. Because of this food culture, Alsatians are not small people.
In Corsica, the food was a bit different because Corsica is more Italian than French or German. There was lots of pasta on the menus. Tomatoes seemed to be important. Of course, fish was very prevalent. I was told that Corsica is famous for goat cheese, brocciu (another kind of cheese), chestnuts and boar meat. We dined out only one time…true dining, not just a sandwich or a snack. Francis and Fabienne are both excellent cooks and I told them it was like dining at “Chez Tafani.” The meals we had in Corsica were not much different from the ones we had in Alsace. Here are a few random photos which may or may not be of interest to you. These are all from the time I was in Corsica.
Now are you ready to go make yourself something to eat?
